Seems its a tried and tested method!....

believe it or not, but B&Q actually do a decent range of ladders for decent
prices. I bought a 2 part ladder recently (extends to 5.5m ish) and it was
light enough to carry on my shoulder for the 5min walk back to my house.
Perfectly sturdy as well, when in use.
