Can anyone recommend an installer in the South Bristol area? A "proper"
one, not a man who happens to own a ladder! (that's what I got last time
)

No, but ...

I'm in south Bristol, and the Ilchester Crescent transmitter should
serve most of the area without much difficulty. You don't need a
so-called 'digital' aerial - just a sensible Group B.

Whereabouts are you? Can you not do a DIY job with new CT100 coax?

Unless of course one happens to live smack behind the remains of the last
Wills building!

Just off Wells Road, top of Red Lion Hill. Existing aerial points to
Mendip, gives a reasonable analogue picture but we get a lot of break-up
on digital. I'm too old to be clambering about on the roof or I would
have a go myself!

Right. It may be that just replacing the co-ax with CT100 would do the
trick, or you could try pointing at Ilchester Crescent instead of
Mendip - though strictly speaking you'd need a different band aerial
and you would certainly need to rotate it for vertical polarisation
from Ilchester Crescent rather than Mendip's horizontal.

If the existing aerial isn't safely accessible, you could consider a
new installation with a vertically polarised Group B aerial pointing
at Ilchester Crescent and CT100 co-ax. You might well find that a
(safe) loft installation would be fine.

I might try your suggestion of a loft aerial and CT100 cable (I didn't
know there were different qualities of cable, electric string is
electric string I always thought!)

I'll have a look in B&Q at Hartcliffe and see what they have.

Thanks for the assistance.

If you can't find CT100 then WF100 is the same just with a foam dialetric
instead of an air spaced dialetric. Doubt very much that the sheds will sell
CT100 or equivalent. Read once that the decent coax that Screwfix sell is
CT100, but they call it something different. Otherwise order from
http://www.tvaerials.com/shop.aspx?categoryid=107, for example.

I'm in north Bristol, and have a loft mounted aerial pointing at Mendip and
get excellent reception using an old Yagi aerial, but fully rewired with
WF100 cable to all the outlets.

Yes - I should have written "CT100 or equivalent" - but it takes too
long to type ;-) .

I think they might well sell it, but, as you say, perhaps under a
different name. I'm pretty sure that B&Q, for instance, have what they
call 'satellite grade' (OSLT) cable.

Right. It's the cable that (often) makes the difference!

Not sure I'd trust what the sheds sell, least of all B&Q!!

B&Q satellite grade is often RG6 which is aluminium screened rather than
copper on copper. It's not generally recommended.
Screwfix stuff is either Philex or Webro whichever they have in stock. I
find both good and both are CAI approved.
