Default Freeview and BBCi and NTL

We've just got a Freeview TV (we are with NTL, don't know if that makes a
difference) and wonder how this BBCi thing works.
We pressed the red button during a program (snooker) which had the symbol in
the corner of the screen. We were expecting to get a multi-screen view of
another match or an update of scores of the other match.
Instead we got a sign that says Loading but however long we waited, nothing
happened.
If I cancel, it gives me the option to press the blue button and select
again. If I do, it just says Please Wait but nothing happens.
Is BBCi just something you get with Sky?

I take it your "Freeview TV" is hooked up to a proper TV aerial as well as
the cable. Do you get the regular Freeview digital channels? (Note that this
is independent of the channels you get via cable.)

There may be some confusion here.

It worked for me last night. Assuming you have a good digital signal it
might be the tuner is faulty, You day you just got the TV? Take it up
immediately with your supplier would be my advice.

You must have the i programmes loaded. Do a rescan of all the channels and
see if those are included

Can you see channels 301 and 302? If not, that will explain why BBCi
isn't working for you.

Don't be daft.
This is very obviously NOT a fault
AS such is is nothing to do with the seller
Invariably the consumer who is the problem which is why the OP was
asking for useful suggestions.
This is also the reason so many 'returns' are re-sold with no fault
whatsoever!

Woa Tiger! ALL advice is welcome. I'm really grateful for any that comes my
way and can always sift out the bits that don't work for me.

The BBCi streams are channels 301 and 302, as the other
poster said. Have a look for them in the channel list. If
they are not there, your aerial my not be picking up all the
stations. Sometimes a whole multiplex (group of channels) is
missing. 301 and 302 are grouped together on one multiplex,
with BBC4 and BBC Parliament. If you don't see any of those,
the multiplex is missing. Try a rescan. If that does not
work, you may need a new aerial.

I tried putting in the numbers 301 and 302 on the remote control and all
that appeared were BBC1 and BBC2, I also did a rescan and there is no sign
of BBC4 or BBCParliament so it looks as if you are correct and we need to
look out for someone who does arials.
Thanks everyone. It's like having a teenager in your living room!

301 and 302 are not channel numbers, they are the actual
names of the BBCi channels, like BBC1 and BBC2 are channel
names. In any case, if you are not getting BBC4 and BBC
Parliament you wont get 301 and 302 either. All I can think
of for you to try is to make sure you have the most direct
connection from the aerial - for the best signal the aerial
lead should connect directly from the aerial itself to the
socket on the tv.
