Hi all,
I do not wish this to sound wrong, but when a film has the person in
the corner giving sigh language, is any fact made of that in the listings?
I am very grateful that my hearing is ok, and find it distracting, and would
look for the film another time if I could avoid them.
but I cannot see any reference made?
Mick.

It's indicated with a 'SL' in the program information windows: also
'Radio Times' generally has 'SL' at the end of the information in the
listings. These transmissions generally happen in the small hours of
the morning, about once a week on Channel 4 and once or twice across
the Sky Movies channels.

Thank you,
I will know what to look for now.

And it wouldn't hurt to allow a 'press red' option on digital TV to give us
the unsigned version, since often the signed version is the only chance to
catch it if you missed the original broadcast, and on C4 when they show films
that way, it was some time ago when it was shown unsigned.

Other way around, please. Default is unsigned and press red to get the
signed version. It'd be similar to the current situation where you go
through menus to get an Audio Narration soundtrack with the default
being the standard soundtrack for most of the population.

I meant for the late-night repeat. Yes, it would be a pain, but you should've
read some of the flames I got on the BBC POV board from some complete morons
who thought what you suggest was what I was suggesting.

When I clarified (even though it was clear to begin with from anyone who can
read English) that 'press red' would be an option to get the unsigned version
up at that time of night, did they say, "Oh, that's alright, then"? No, they
just carped on, "No, you've already had your unsigned version", totally
missing the point I was making about 'what if you missed the original
broadcast'.

Sadly, the BBC POV board doesn't make anyone take a comprehension test before
signing up.

The commercial channels have to provide either 0.5% or 1% of programming in
sign language, hence why it's used at times when hardly anyone's watching, but
while the BBC don't have to use it, they make a big thing about their 'Sign
Zone'.

The only plus about catching a few minutes, the other night, of that Panorama
programme with the wobbly camerawork was that only 1/3 of the screen was
wobbling due to it being scrunched into the corner and the signer STILL
standing in the bloody way!

Wasn't that camera work awful? Jebus, is that what Panorama has come down
too now? Let's play at making it "cool"

2% now. It goes up every couple of years.

And the BBC just attempted to justify their reasons for doing it, when they
received numerous complaints, rather than apologise for it.

Then again, on Newswatch the weekend before last, the BBC News Editor
apologised for the endless Monday news-time plugs that night's Panorama is
given on a weekly basis... and then two days later did it all over again.
