Alan,
Any word yet on your replay of the recording on the DVR? Jim "Alan F" wrote in message news:[email protected] Jim, yes, I was writing about over the air reception, but the issue would be there for cable reception as well. All the cable company does is to essentially pass on the signal they get from the local broadcast station, although they may do some rate-shaping for higher compression or modify the PSIP header information. The local station takes the network feed and passes it through it's equipment which allows them to insert their own station logo or commercials. If you have contacted the station engineer, it is up to him or her to bug Fox about the problem. You can go to Fox's website and complain to their email box, but there is no guarantee that anyone will read it. If you want to formally complain to the FCC, here is the FCC web page for guidelines on submitting closed caption complaints: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/dro/tips_on_f...complaint.html. I have House from last Tuesday on the HD-DVR (for WTTG-DT Fox 5 in Washington, DC sent via Verizon FiosTV). I will take a look tonight and see if the captioning is way out of sync. Alan F Jim wrote: Just to clarify Alan, you are talking about High Definition broadcasts Over the Air?? That is the only place I have any problem. I have contacted the local stations (2 are receivable from my location). One has responded and said the network is aware of it - local stations just pass on what they are sent. I followed up with another question asking if he could provide me an email or physical address so I can let FOX know there is a problem. Thanks for the reply. Jim "Alan F" wrote in message news:[email protected] I suggest you complain to the local stations. The problem may or may not be with Fox, but the local station engineer is the one who has the responsibility for his station sending out a quality signal. Go to the station's website and see if you can find a email address or phone # for the engineering department. If there is only a general contact address, then start with that. If you do not get any productive responses, you can always threaten to file a complaint with the FCC. I have seen prolonged delays on captions, but I have not noticed on it Fox recently. I do not watch 24, but I did watch House last week and I do not recall noticing any severe delays in the captions. Alan F Jim wrote: I am a hearing impaired person that requires Closed Captioning to enjoy Television. I watch Over The Air High Definition programs when they are available. I faithfully watch "24" every Monday night. I have noticed ever since I've had my HDTV that Fox network does not do a good job with Closed Captioning of HD broadcasts. I thought perhaps it might just have been "24" production but tonight I tried to watch "House" and the poor closed captioning persists. The poor closed captioning I'm referring to, is a 4 - 5 second delay between when words are spoken and when they appear on screen. I do not have this problem with ABC, CBS, or NBC. Only Fox. When I switch from OTA to Satellite, the closed captioning is synchronized great, however that reception is not in High Definition. I view Fox on two channels from different cities, the problem happens on both stations. I attempted to communicate my problem to the Fox network but I cannot find anywhere to submit my complaint. Perhaps someone here is experiencing the same problem? I'd appreciate knowing and maybe with a few complaints from consumers, we could get the closed captioning straightened out on FOX HD broadcasts. Thanks, Jim |

Jim, yes. I played back the House episode for that Tuesday and did not
see any noticeable lag between the speech and the captions. This for WTTG-DT Fox 5 in Washington, DC. I have seen serious lags sometimes for between the captioning and speed for some programming but not this time. I have often noticed that they sometimes drop out entire sentences when someone is talking quickly - or the caption was overwritten before it could be displayed. This would have the Fox east coast feed. You didn't post where you are or what your local Fox stations are, so I don't know if you were watching a west coast feed from the network. I'm in Sebring Florida and watch the Fox out of Ft. Myers/ However, I also
get Fox out of Tampa and both have a long delay between spoken word and visual word, a little worse than the captioning on a live telecast. Would you believe that today I sent off a letter to corporate FOX about the
CC problem with High Definition Broadcasts and tonight "24" in HD was in sync. Bad timing or just really good response by FOX??? LOL Jim "Jim" wrote in message thlink.net...
