Default RCA Scenium with built in DVD, can I disable the DVD functions

I just bought a new RCA DVD Recorder (model DRC-8052N) the problem is
that the remote that came with the new recorder wants to operate the
DVD player built into my RCA Scenium D52W135D, which has been broken
for years.

This is somewhat frustrating and I would very much like to completely
disable and maybe even remove the DVD player from the HDTV. Is this
possible?

Maybe open up the TV and cut the wires going from the IR receiver to
the DVD functions, without affecting the rest of the TV controls.
Really wishing I had not bought the model with the built in DVD player
now!

Not unless you actually want to disconnect internal connectors to the DVD,
however the syscon of the tele may interpret that issue as an error and
won't allow power up sequence to complete. May be worth a try though,
suggest getting a service manual before going into the thing, these sets
have been frustrating even for trained technicians.

That will work if it is used with the external DVD, otherwise no remote
functions will work with the tele. Down side is on will need to manually
press the function keys on the DVD to obtain any functions.
