I don't suppose anyone has the slightest idea why Hauppauge cards won't work
with Windows Media Encoder 9, or knows how to fix the Hauppauge drivers to
make it work, or fix Windows Media Encoder 9 to make it work with the
drivers? The error is "device not connected" which apparently means it IS
connected but even the most up to date (2007) drivers from Hauppauge don't
conform strictly enough to Microsoft's new "Windows Driver Model", which is
a shame because they were fine with Windows Media Encoder 7, and the
Hauppauge card works fine with that.

The trouble is that Microsoft have just removed the Windows Media Encoder 7
download from their website, meaning there is no longer any compatibility
between Windows Media Encoder and Hauppauge, and no way of using a Hauppauge
card unless you already downloaded Windows Media Encoder 7 a year or two
ago. This is typical of what happens when Microsoft formally withdraw
support for a product and demonstrates arrogance and complacency on their
part.

There was no need whatsoever for Microsoft to delete wmencoder71.exe from
their website, even if they have formally finished support for it. Where's
Microsoft's interest in the amateur computer nerd, the sort of person who
will want to play with the old version of the software regardless, infact
just the sort of people who actually founded Microsoft?

Why not just download it from somewhere else?

The first link I tried seemed to work OK.
