Default firewire TV tuner

I'm a big fan of firewire and I'm looking to buy a HD capable firewire TV tuner for my PC, preferably something that might be
compatible with Vista, or if not Vista, at least WinXP Media Center Edtion. I've seen a few firewire boxes using google but I was
hoping to hear from someone who actually uses one. Has anyone out there used a firewire TV tuner and care to give me feedback on
if it was any good? (I'm not interested in USB boxes.) Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't worry about USB2 flakiness, IME, firewire is just as flaky :-(

"HD capable firewire TV tuner"... What does that mean?
Do you mean an external Freeview box that apart from a firewire
connection also has HDMI output to connect to a suitable display?
None exist as far as I know, and on freeview only one Hi-Def channel
and thats an encrypted BBC test channel.
There are a number of DVD-Recorders - specifically Sony, that have
an On-Board Freeview tuner and HDMI output that upscales, though
that is not "true" HD, and is a moot point if when "true" HD is available
that they could display it as such?
What exactly do you require? If it's futureproofing for possible Hi-Def
via freeview then install a DVB-T PCI card and a graphics card with
HDMI and the HDCP chipset, this makes your PC a DVR for less than
two hundred quid for both cards, and if and when HD meterial is available
via freeview your PC will be able recieve and view it.
I don't get your firewire fetish?

No, I think he means an external PC Freeview tuner which connects by
Firewire rather than USB.

A more pertinent question is why? USB 2.0 is actually a few MBps
faster than Firewire, although Firewire has a theoretical advantage in
data transmission speed for various technical reasons. This is why
Firewire external HDs are favoured for video editing etc.

Don't see that it'd make much difference for something like a PC
Freeview tuner though.

the previous poster understood me correctly. I like outboard firewire devices. I've always had very good results working with
firewire, and not-as-good- with USB. Casting aside all the technical/statistical/numbers/bytes-per-second arguments firewire works
for me where USB doesn't.
I'm interested in getting an external TV tuner that connects to a PC via firewire and I was hoping that someone out there might
have tried such a box. One such item is a FireDTV, made by a company in Australia but they don't seem capable of responding to
emails.
