Default Can audio outputs be changed from fixed to variable?

I have a Samsung HLS6187W DLP HDTV with two powered speakers
connected to the audio out. It sounds good, but I have to
manually change the volume by using the knob on the speakers.
Is there a way to change the audio outputs to variable instead
of fixed? I just accessed the service menu using the mute-8-2-1
trick, but didn't see a way to do this.

-Thanks

This change does not usually require the service menu but should be
available via setup.

I called Samsung today about this. This set does not support
variable audio output. They recommended checking if the
satellite or cable boxes do.
