Free HBO + Cinemax for 5 days starting March 15th.
-Joe

http://www.jointogether.org/news/you...n-project.html

Debuting THURSDAY, MARCH 15 (9:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), with the centerpiece
documentary ADDICTION, the series is eye-opening and ultimately hopeful,
providing guidance in navigating the often confusing world of addiction
treatment and recovery.

For the first time, HBO will use all of its digital platforms, including
the HBO main service, multiplex channels, HBO On Demand, podcasts, web
streams, and DVD sales to support a campaign that includes a 14-part
documentary series, a book published by Rodale Press, four independent
addiction-themed films, a robust website and a national community
grassroots outreach campaign funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

All films will initially be offered during a free HBO preview weekend
from Thursday, March 15 to Sunday, March 18 in participating cable systems.

Did you post this to a DirecTV group because you had some reason
to believe that DTV was participating in the free weekend? It's
well into Thursday evening now, and I'm sure not getting HBO or
Cinemax.

Don't feel bad, Joe. Even the local cable operation here would
routinely refuse to join in on free weekends. (Of course, they
wouldn't tell anybody that beforehand.)

And DirecTV is notorious for not letting subscribers know about
preview weekends. Sometimes I see a notice in the invoice insert
*after* it happens. Many people do direct payment and probably
don't even see the monthly inserts. I wish they would use the
onscreen message function to tell us about free premium channel
previews instead of just boxing matches. It's always been odd to
me that they don't do an effective job of publicizing events that
could add to their revenues.

Oh well, maybe we'll get the next HBO preview. DirecTV does take
them sometimes.

I tried to find a list of the "participating cable systems" and was
unsuccessful.
I finally sent email to the address at the bottom of
http://www.jointogether.org/news/you...n-project.html
asking for the list, saying I had searched the net, searched Comcast,
searched
their web page, etc. I got a prompt polite reply instructing me to
look at the
schedule to find the list. I dug through their pages and did find the
list:

http://www.addictionaction.org/watch/affiliates.html

So that appears to settle the question of who gets this.

Now that was uncalled for. Joe attempted to provide information,
information that would be useful if both cable and sat services would
focus
on serving rather than raping the customer for a change. That's a trend
that both have been working on for a couple decades now, it certainly
isn't
Joe's fault.

However, I would also agree that posting it to a DTV group was also
uncalled for, in that the original post even explicitly said cable
services
(and even they won't be honoring the deal). In posting it to a satellite
group, it smacks very loudly of "neener neener, look what cable gets and
you don't". Feel free to ClueBat(TM) him for that one, but not for the
fact that DTV isn't honoring HBO's promotion.

In the olden days, I would have been able to watch this free
preview on cable. But that was before Comcast (or perhaps one
of their predecessors) moved all the premium channels to digital.
Since I have DirecTV, the basic cable package is plenty for me.
