SD zoomed in on a LCD can look blurry and may show excessive artifacts
depending on the source, the TV, and the viewing distance. My Samsung 46"
handles SD pretty well but still.the best option for me is to leave the SD
signal at 4:3 (un-stretched or un-zoomed) and doing this, it makes the 4:3
size *36" diagonal* when watching SD programming.

Good point I hadn't thought of as a lot of programming
may be in SD only where I live locally. Not sure

Sounds like tube TVS still have lost of advantages over
LCD and others huh?

Well, not really. Before my 46" Samsung LCD purchase, my main TV was a 36"
JVC tube TV. I knew what I was getting into with regard to standard
definition programming when I bought my LCD. It took me maybe a couple of
days to get used to the look. What I mean by "the look" is the same look of
a movie screen in a theater when a movie just starts. It looks different
than a CRT but after a while you prefer it - your brain and your eyes adjust
and it finally looks good. Same with LCD vs.the tube CRT. In my opinion,
the worst-looking standard definition signal still beats seeing the same
thing on a CRT. When I go back to my JVC tube TV, all I can notice are the
gigantic phosphor slots on the screen. There never was any detail before
because the CRT couldn't produce it... I just never noticed it.

If the window situation in my room were different, I may have considered
plasma. I have side windows and the screen reflections would have made a
plasma TV unviewable. LCD screens do not reflect room light so that was my
only choice. But LCD sometimes "pixilated" dark backgrounds depending on
the signal - it's not perfect. I'm still happy with the switch and do
prefer the look over my 36" CRT.

Well I meant tubes vs LCD as used in HD signals

IOW....comparing a tube HD set to a LCD HD set

Tubes still have some resolution advantages. yes?
