This is how Unix systems (in particular) handle time That's not entirely correct. It's how SOME posix-type machines handle time, but not all. It's perfectly fine for a box to use it's own local time as it's hardware time and a great many do. If the hardware clock is local then at boot time the kernel "corrects" and sets it's own software clock to UTC. The kernel still runs in UTC. When the machine is shutdown it re-converts to localtime to store back on the hardware clock. Basically, except at boot/shutdown time the hardware clock timezone is irrelevant. -- Stephen Harris The truth is the truth, and opinion just opinion. But what is what? My employer pays to ignore my opinions; you get to do it for free. |

Notice of what, exactly? The everything you've told it to record is going to record? Unless you're just one of those people who explicitly seeks out something to whine about, this is the biggest non-issue ever. Unless you have a Ssries1 with any manual recordings, then you have to correct them. It could suck if you're on a trip and didn't fix them before you left. -MZ -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. Yes, other than a couple of a few manual recordings it was much less of a problem than I had thought it might be. Although it's very annoying to see that the 11:00 O'Clock news is scheduled for 10:00 PM! (All program data is on standard time until April). We often use the "pick programs to record" just to find out when or whether something will be on. Now if it says that The Big Game will be on a week from Thursday at 8, we have to KNOW that it will really be on at 9 ... I still feel that it's poor business practice for Tivo not to have downloaded what should have been a minimal software upgrade, even for older equipment. Even Microsoft, while not providing an automatic update for older operating systems, did post information on how to fix it yourself (not appropriate for Tivo, but at least the thought was there). |

Agreed, many x86 machines use localtime for the battery-backed CMOS clock, but Unix/Linux/etc use GMT internally while running. -Joe |
