It fills up one quarter of the screen and out does even the FiveUS
DOG for sheer annoyance factor. It's totally unwatchable. F***ing
*******.

Most of these DOGs are semi-transparant overlays, so with a bit of
electronic fiddling, or in software, they could be keyed out.

I don't know if there are better programs for doing it if you're
prepared to pay, but I've played with a logo removal filter for
Virtualdub and thought it was a bit crap. Its not really worth the
drop in quality that adding an extra encoding process will get you
just to make the logo look a bit more fuzzy.

Its the ones that move around or pop up over people's faces while they
are talking that are the most annoying anyway, and those aren't
transparent at all.

With fast enough processing power it should be possible to remove a DOG
- but then you'd have a DOG shaped hole in your picture, so you'd then
need some sort of interpolation algorithhm to fill in the space.

Most DOGs are semi-transparant so all you should need to do is boost the
gain of this area using the DOG shape as a guide. Match the levels - job
done, hopefully...

You'd
also have some sort of database of DOGs. I've no doubt somebody will
find a way of doing it; trouble is the TV companies will then start
using different DOGs, or animated DOGs...

Animated DOGs would really meet viewer resistance.

They used animated DOG crap on CBBC over Christmas.

I never really hear many people complain of them except the same old few
people on here that seem to compalin about anything and everything, I've
never heard anyone in the 'pub' say anything about them. The BBC ones don't
really distract or spoil my pleasure when I view their channels.

When people stop watching the BBC's DOG **** infested channels then the
BBC will have to make changes.

Have you asked them? The subject never comes up with my friends in the
pub either - unless I raise it when we have a discussion about TV - and
then they all say how irritating they are!

The Nebula DigiTV card has always had that feature.

I can only assume you've never tried to watch Torchwood on BBC3?

I always wait for the repeat on BBC2 which doesn't have the logo.

Complaining to the BBC won't get him anywhere either. They just send an
automated reply from a respondbot.

"Dear [insert name], thank you for your comments on [insert name]. Here at
the BBC we read every complaint and take viewers opinions very seriously".

A friend has had literally dozens of replies about different complaints
about different programmes and all of them with virtually the same wording.
The same is true of any big corporation.

I think that's one reason why I lost interest in Invasion on C4/E4. E4
broadcast it it widescreen with DOG and C4 broadcast it in 4:3 sans DOG.

Children are being trained to get used to them -- look at the mess on
any children's channel for evidence of that. So you will only really
get adults complain about them now. As the adults get older and die,
and the children become the new adults, you will get less and less
people complaining.

That's the principle by which most large corporates live, most famously
expressed by PT Barnum with his phrase "There's One Born Every Minute".

Large corporate businesses seem to be headed by "Sherrif of Nottingham"
types (individually or by a collective of board members). Sadly, for the
majority of us, there is an extreme shortage of "Robin Hoods" to redress
this imbalance. :-(

One quarter of the screen? Are you sure your picture is correctly adjusted,
your set may have devloped a fault.
