After a great deal of research I FINALLY ordered the
Samsung HL-S6187W 61" 1080p DLP HDTV. The speaker system is described like this: "Two stereo speakers, 10 watts apiece (20 watts total); SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround; Dual Acoustic Chamber System" How does this set sound without auxiliary speakers? I'm actually considering getting the Polk Atrium 45p powered speakers to enhance the sound. -Thanks |

I have a 6188 with the same sound system as yours. Audio is fine for voice,
but is a far cry from the fidelity required that would be comparable with the outstanding video of this receiver. I'm not familiar with the speakers you mention, but they don't sound like much of an improvement. I expect most people who spend the money for this TV would not be satisfied without a first class audio system. You should go to a retailer and listen to some speakers. My RCA has the SRS WOW virtual surround. It adds some "depth" but calling it surround is misleading at best. The bad news was I got so caught up with inputs forgot to look at outputs and that it doesn't have digital audio out. The good news is the analog Dolby surround sounds much better on the 5 speaker(KLH) home sound system than it ever did from a stereo VCR. It actually sounds like surround. It's good enough that I'm no longer thinking of getting a digital 5.1 surround receiver even though the media player does support it. Probably will add a subwoofer now though. IOW it takes surround speakers to get surround sound. YMMV |
