Default Blue-Ray or HDDVD on a pioneer PRO-1140HD vs sony xbr3 ?

Is there any difference between viewing the Blue-Ray or HDDVD on the
pioneer plasmas or the sonys ?

I am wondering because the sony has a higher definition:

pioneer - 1,365 x 768

compared to - 1920x1080

Does this matter when looking at Blue-ray ?

Also - they guy from best buy says that with the plasma you can see
your reflection in it.

We plan to put the tv in the den - there are no windows in the den so
I wont have a problem with
sunlight. Because the room is darker I am leaning towards the
plasma ?

Any suggestions on above ?

Thanks.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are recorded at 1920 x 1080 so the higher resolution
display could use the whole image without rescaling.

However: whether you can see the increased resolution depends on the screen
size and how far you sit from it. Study the charts in this article:

Objective reviews that I've read tend to agree that although Blue-Ray is
slightly technically superior (1080p compared to HD-DVD's 1080i), the
quality of the mastering of the DVD is more of a factor than the player
technology. In other words, some Blue-Ray discs look better than some
HD-DVD discs and some HD-DVD discs look better than some Blue-Ray discs.

I can tell you that Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD now. The issue is
which one will survive? You dont want to pick the loser, otherwise you
will never get content If you get a Blu-Ray player, consider just
getting a PS3....Game AND Blu-Ray player for less.

Probably not.

Well, why don't you look at one instead of trusting the "guy brom best buy"?

It probably won't matter.

Both have 1080p now. And there is also a combo player that is 1080p.

I have read that while virtually all HD-DVD discs are dual layer 30GB, 80%
of BD discs are 25GB single layer.

That, coupled with the BD's near universal use of the inefficient/uglier
MPEG2 vs the more efficient/artifact resistant codec used in most HD-DVD's
could have some something to do with BD's "poor showing".

HD-DVD will win out for the same reason that VHS won out over BetaMax.
The porn industry has decided to use HD-DVD like they decided to use
VHS.

I had no trouble getting porn movies to watch on my BetaMax VCR!
