Is there any difference between viewing the Blue-Ray or HDDVD on the
pioneer plasmas or the sonys ? I am wondering because the sony has a higher definition: pioneer - 1,365 x 768 compared to - 1920x1080 Does this matter when looking at Blue-ray ? Also - they guy from best buy says that with the plasma you can see your reflection in it. We plan to put the tv in the den - there are no windows in the den so I wont have a problem with sunlight. Because the room is darker I am leaning towards the plasma ? Any suggestions on above ? Thanks. |

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are recorded at 1920 x 1080 so the higher resolution display could use the whole image without rescaling. However: whether you can see the increased resolution depends on the screen size and how far you sit from it. Objective reviews that I've read tend to agree that although Blue-Ray is slightly technically superior (1080p compared to HD-DVD's 1080i), the quality of the mastering of the DVD is more of a factor than the player technology. In other words, some Blue-Ray discs look better than some HD-DVD discs and some HD-DVD discs look better than some Blue-Ray discs. |

We plan to put the tv in the den - there are no windows in the den so I wont have a problem with sunlight. Because the room is darker I am leaning towards the plasma ? It probably won't matter. I have read that while virtually all HD-DVD discs are dual layer 30GB, 80% of BD discs are 25GB single layer. That, coupled with the BD's near universal use of the inefficient/uglier MPEG2 vs the more efficient/artifact resistant codec used in most HD-DVD's could have some something to do with BD's "poor showing". |
