Their 10-foot $94 HDMI cable is being remaindered for at buy.com for
$24.95 - When it hits $14.95 maybe I'll pick up a couple, but that's
still about double what it's worth.

Maybe they figure the jig is up and it's time to get honest. The local
Best Buy must hate me for all of the business I have lost them on cables
and peripherals. A co worker bought his plasma at BB last week and was
ready for the HDMI cable and monster cable surge protector sale ploy
that I warned him about. I can count at least 20 people I have pointed
to the web for HDMI and component cables and I hope they have at least
told another 5-10 apiece.

There is more going on here. CompUSA just announced they are closing
all their stores in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. The
anaylists claim they cannot compete with all the Internest sources.

Seems like Circuit City is hurting for many of the same reasons.

IMO, Modern business will have to adapt to a better informed smarter
customer than they have been used to. It used to be just the guys like
me that went to the library and read consumer reports and researched
their products as best they could. Now, as shown by the people in this
and other discussion groups we are so much more informed. Comp USA
closed a slew of stores this last week. Their poor rebate practices have
been named as one of the reasons. It used to be that you get burned on a
rebate and you think "oh it's just me this one time". Now I get ****ed
when I find it's a common practice and I take my dollar elsewhere.
Gee Ma, ain't communication great....

Being from the East Coast and a somewhat infrequent Orange County
traveller, I would have to say the biggest competition is Fry's. I
keep wishing Fry's would expand to the east coast, but the only store
so far is in Atlanta.
