Default Sky and dvd recorder

Hi
Trying to record sky onto a dvd recorder. All set up using scart leads(scart
from sky box to crown cdvdrw recorder, then another scart from recorder to
tv) but cannot seem to get any vision through the dvd recorder.
Can get sound just no vision and same when i record.
Anyone shed any light? do sky put a "stop" on recording from sky box?

Ryan

there are some channels you cannot record, such as pay per view. All
the rest will record as far as I am aware. You need full 21 pin
scarts, use one from the TV output of the sky box into the dvd
recorder (must be connected to the input scart socket, may be marked
sat/cable/decoder or something along those lines. You then take the
other scart from the dvd into the tv, again, make sure you have it
into the input socket on the tv. You then set your dvd recorder to
whichever input is marked for your sky box, av1 or whatever it is
called and everything should work properly. I am not sure if you need
to check that you have scart control switched on on the sky box too...
I'm sure someone else can fill any gaps I have left.

There is no block on recording from the Sky box. .
I have not got your make of recorder, but have you checked that you are
connecting as recommended by the recorders instructions?Mine goes from
the sky box to the recorder then on to the TV.
Also have you checked the picture settings on the box to ensure that
you are inputting the right type of signal to the recorder? For
instance RGB to an RGB input on your recorder.

Are you sure that you have the correct SCART cable? Many are directional (IN or
OUT). You either need the correct directional one, a fully wired one or a
directional one with a switch.

I've been unable to record several of the Discovery ones for the past
month or two. My Lite-On LVW5045 comes up with a 'Protected Content'
message if I try.

Yeah, I never did work out if it was the channels or the recorder
itself, but I think I mentioned that happened to me when I owned a
Sharp DVD recorder. The panasonics have no problems on the discovery
channels.

some scarts have a little switch on the scart end itself, it will say
something like in/out. I am a little unsure about the ones with
missing pins, whether they work both ways, but most if not all dvd
recorder advise a full scart lead.

IF you can unscrew the black lump off the boxy bit at the end you can
usually open them up and check it has the full compliment of wires.
Howver sometimes they don't go back together very well, which is not
good.
