Default Sky plus question

Ok we got it today, cost us nothing as I had mentioned in another post, I
threatened to cancel my account and so they gave us a free + box plus free
fitting, now the bloke who fitted it, said we would be better off adding a
premium channel rather then be paying the extra tenner as it would only work
out 3 quid dearer and he advised us to go tot he sky.com site to check this
out, of course the sky site is naff to navigate or get any real information
from, so what are my options, as I am sure some of you already do this.

I know some people upgrade to a premium package in order to circumvent the
Sky plus sub, but you've got to really like either sport or movies or both,
and have the time to watch all the extra output that will be available.

I checked the website recently and the premium channels are actually pretty
expensive:

the movie option or sport option is 18.00 each per month or 24.50 if you get
both. This is in addition to the monthly fee you'd pay for your basic
subscription (at least 15.00).

So to get Sky Plus you either pay ten pounds per month extra (Sky plus
subscription) or you pay 18.00 per month extra (one premium subscription
which includes Sky plus).

Personally I think it's too much either way.

The other option is to subscribe to Sky HD for 10 pounds per month which
includes 'free' Sky+. A better deal than the other two for those who dislike
sports & think that the movie channels are poor value.

It's a better deal I agree, but still poor to pay extra for Sky HD. I
bet Sky management are kicking themselves that they didn't think of
charging for "Sky Colour" (£10 extra per month) and "Sky Stereo"
(another £10 extra per month) in the early 1990s, or "Sky RGB" in 1998
at the launch of Sky Digital. It seems to be that the very same people
who pay extra for HD would have been happy to pay for those
"services"!

Lol!
And of course to get Sky HD you have to stump up 299.00 for the box itself
plus 60.00 installation. Unbelievable.

When I got my Sky+ box (about 4 years ago) I refused to take out Sky Sports
or Movies as I said I didn't need them and I would just pay the extra £10.
The installation engineer phoned the company and said I didn't want either
Sports or Movies and the person at Sky wanted to talk to me. She offered me
a deal for the £10 that included either Sky Sports 1 or Sky Sports 2 and
also Sky Movies 2, 4, 6, and 8.

I took that deal as it didn't increase the £10. They might still do it now.

The price has recently gone down. You can buy a Sky HD box from an independent
retailer for under 200 pounds & install it yourself.

Not only that, but you have to pay for an HD TV as well! Unbelievable!

And you have to pay for a living room to put that TV in, and a sofa to
sit on while you watch. Unbelievable!
