where to buy used CRT RPTV?

Some good old CRT RPTV was made 2-3 yrs ago, now, it is almost
impossible to find them in used market. where one can find dealers
sell these TV?

I also look at the current RPTV, they have excellent color and
sharpness, however, for some unknown reasons, the movie portion is
mediocre, it looks flat, poor dark detailed and uninspiring. do I get
used to old school CRT?

You can find used sets in on-line for sale newsgroups and websites. But it
is very important that you inform yourself about the sets before buying.
Older CRT RPTVs are not HD. AVS Forum is a good place to start.

As to image quality, this depends on the signal. If you see a good HD
program on a good set it will look good regardless of what is being
broadcast, movie or otherwise.

CRT projection can give good results, but they need periodic professional
adjustment. Chances are one being sold used will be in urgent need of such
service, which can cost a couple of hundred $ or more.

If you can get into the service menus of the old CRT HD RPTVs you can do
these adjustments yourself, I periodically do so myself on a 3 yr old
Toshiba 57" HX83. I still don't see any sets out there today getting HD
feeds that can beat the picture quality of the HD feed my RPTV receives.
Many of them seem to be quite grainy to me.

While I'm sure your 57" Toshiba has an amazing picture, I bet my 3 year-old
Hitatchi 51S500 Ultravision is right up there too! In their day, they were
consistently at the front of the pack. My only regret: not getting the
57"...

What I meant to say was new TV's still can't beat the picture quality on my
3 yr old Tosh...my bad :-).

That's what *I'm* saying too! My unit is a RPTV CRT (295 pounds of monster),
and many newer technologies are slimmer and sexier for sure, but can't match
the overall picture quality that I enjoy.

I like my crt rptv hdtv. the plasma, lcd, and dlp people think there
picture is better. but its not. I think if they saw how good the picture
looks on my crt tv they would be shocked.

All display technologies are a "compromise" to a certain extent. Other than
it's size and weight, and a few adjustments now and then, I *still* think my
old unit compares very favourably to today's newer technologies.

When it was new, it listed for CDN $3699. I was able to purchase it for CDN
$2179. It was a *very* good deal then, and I am still happy with its quality
picture.
