I just purchased a new HDTV and a DVD recorder to add to Sky.
Sky box is one of those free to air Thomson boxes. It has 2 scarts DVD recorder has 2 scarts HDTV has 2 hdmi, 2 scart, component and vga. Xbox 360 is connected to HDTV via component and that works fine. I can setup sky to work perfectly in scart 1 on TV on its own. Trouble is I am struggling to get the DVD recorder to recognise the sky channels and I am not sure what I am doing. What I think I am suppose to do is have DVD into scart 1 of TV and sky plugged into DVD scart. But the DVD recorder is not picking up the sky channels when I do a scan. Also when I do the sky-dvd-tv option, I lose sound on sky. Pulling hair out, can anyone please advise? |

Just something else to add, I can view sky connected through the DVD recorder (apart from sound) so I am pretty sure the connections are okay. Its just I dont know how to get the DVDto pickup sky channels. When I go into setup and look at channels, I see a little screen on the menu and it just shows screen fuzz. |

Your DVD Recorder wont "pick up" any Sky channels. It has to be set to AV1 AV2 or AV3 if your Digibox is connected via SCART... |

You know the Sky you can buy for one off payment and you get basic channels but no subscription |

Well I finally sorted but have a weird setup now but its functional and everything is working. Somehow even though I am using scart, the DVD recorder won't allow a good picture unless I pick component even though component is not being used by it. |

Through scart from sky you use tv out into the rgb ready scart socket on your recorder, IF it is rgb compatible. It may have a setting you need to switch to rgb but hopefully, if both scart sockets on the recorder are rgb then you'll get the best picture. One way of telling if it is working is when you switch the AV on the tv one of them, the one with the dvd running rgb through it, should show an arrow with three little dots. another test is to put the sky box into its settings and look at the little arrows between boxes. if they're blurred or seem to flicker then it's not running rgb. sorry if that all sounds confusing, I'm still getting used to all this myself. sometimes it takes a bit of juggling round the cables before you get tings just right. -- Paul (Need a lift she said much obliged) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

I tried RGB but the picture went greenish. Need to tweak the settings probably. I know the TV accepts RGB so it must be something else within the DVD setup. |

Like I said, I'm not 100% on this. funnily enough it sounds like the old complaint against the ps2 doesn't it? Make sure the socket you're using on the tv is for RGB in, oh, and I think the scart has to be a fully wired one. but yes, check those settings and also the sky box settings, I think it needs scart switched on and the thing set to RGB and not PAL. -- Paul (Need a lift she said much obliged) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |
