Default Recorded HDTV

If I recorded HDTV on an HDTV from a HD channel, then later watch it on a
regular TV or DVD player. Is the stuff I later watch called HDTV and the
picture quality is as good as HDTV?

Thanks

No. To record an HDTV program you must receive the
program with a receiver that recognizes and records
the digital signal. You must then play it back
through a TV with HDTV resolution and can interpret
the signal into the picture.

Well, you do have to have a receiver for it, but it can be played back on
any TV. it doesn't have to be an HDTV. The qualtiy of the picture will be
just as good too, but the resolution will only be 480i. So while you will
see everything on a regular TV that you would see on an HDTV, that's the
difference. My wifes set is an old analog TV and she refuses to let me buy
her a new HDTV. She doesn't like the widescreens and watches the HDTV
image in 16:9 zoomed mode to fill the entire 4:3 screen with the sides of
the HDTV image chopped off.

I have a DVI, IEEE input and output on my TV for the computer so that should
record and playback HDTV resolution, right?

Pull the fuse.

Her: "Honey, my TV doesn't work!".

You: "Oh, what a shame. Time for a new one, eh?".

Actually I have both an analog fullscreen 60" tv and a widescreen 62" HDTV
and the fullscreen offers so much more viewing area. HD is nice though at
1024.
