I had Sky+ installed a couple of months ago, and immediately noticed the
noise from the box. Although we found this very annoying, a quick search suggested that this was the norm, and the cause was the hard drive continuously running in order to lengthen its life. We therefore accepted that we would have to learn with it. Since then we have placed the box in a cabinet with a glass door, and the noise is all but unnoticeable now. We just bought a new plasma TV, and would tally like to use an open shelf instead. Mentioning this to a friend who also has Sky+ this morning, made me wonder. She mentioned that she made Sky replace her box twice: original = very noisy, 1st replacement = a little better, final box = no noise at all. Does that make sense? PS: I am not sure which model I have, but I know that it is a Thomson, and it was fitted, from new, around 3 months ago if that helps. Many TIA. |

Its more likely to be the fan than the hard disk. -- Tumbleweed email replies not necessary but to contact use; tumbleweednews at hotmail dot com |

Sorry, that's what meant. Also worth mentioning that I always have series recording waiting, so that is perhaps why the HD/fan are always running. I do however seem to recall this happening even without that. |

You can always complain and see if you can get a new, quieter box, or replace the fan with a specified quiet one yourself. -- Tumbleweed email replies not necessary but to contact use; tumbleweednews at hotmail dot com |

PS: I am not sure which model I have, but I know that it is a Thomson, and it was fitted, from new, around 3 months ago if that helps. There's the problem, I had a Pace MK1 box that suddenly died, Sky replace it for free with the newer White coloured Pace, That died within a few days. They replaced it with a Thompson and oh my god!!, It's noisy, FF on Programmes recorded pause for a second or so on 30x, Box is everlasting crashing, programmes recorded freeze or fail occasionally. I did'nt hold up much hope when the engineer saw my Pace replacement,Said it was phucked and brought in the Thompson with a big FAULTY! written across the box in black felt tip marker pen! I've just got to get the stuff that IS o-k off the Hard Drive then phone Sky again to cancel, Two replacements two screw-ups...Not good enough! T.W. |
