Most of it does for now since HDMI is so new - people buying TVs may
have something with component out (I do, my LD deck) and people buying
A/V components may have a TV that pre-dates HDMI.

It takes time.

Eventually I'll get a new receiver that does HDMI upconversion, but
that'll need component input.

Also, "coax" it a type of cable, not a type of signal, and not a type
of jack. I find it easier to understand things if I use the words
right. BTW, the cable usually used with RCA jacks is coaxial too.

I spend so much time helping non-technical people that I find it is
just too confusing to use the 'right' terms with them most of the
time. 'RF' most of them have no idea about, but say 'coax' and they
know immediately you mean the 75ohm threaded connector. To the
average person 'coax' is the thick stuff the cable connector uses, or
the satellite dish. Once you tell them the other cables they're using
are also 'coax' they just get lost.

So I tend to say something like 'coax (RF), RCA (composite), S-Video,
or component' when listing them and most people understand.

I do something similar, but put the CORRECT term first. Putting the
wrong term first is not just supporting people's errors, but
encouraging them to continue getting it wrong.

Of course, in time HDMI will hopefully obsolete all of the other
wiring tangles. :-)

Biggest complaint about HDMI that I've heard about (besides fair-use
issues) is that the maximum allowable spec cable length is very short,
maybe 15 - 25 ft (I don't know the spec offhand). Component can be much
longer and apparently many upscale theater rooms are designed in a
manner requiring cables too long for the HDMI spec.

I have found 50 ft HDMI cables on the web (searching for more than a
couple of minutes would probably find even longer ones).

It can be hard to set up a projector without a long cable.

The cable I use is 28 ft (3 ft cable to switch).

I've got an HDMI cable running 50 feet in-wall. So much for distance
limits...

That and there are HDMI extenders available that will effectively eliminate
any distance concerns for a residential install.

The correct link is:

It appears your monitor has no speakers or audio capibility. I'm guessing
you'll have to add a pair of amplified speakers (seperate from the monitor)

Another 90%er. Try hooking the red and white audio out from the Tivo to
speakers.

Ha! There are no speakers.

Renato, notice connector #2 in the photo: DC Power Connector for Dell Soundbar.
Dell expects you to purchase the optional AS501 Sound Bar for Dell LCD Monitors.
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/Popu...9&sku=313-4030

Purchase one of those, hook it to the bottom of your LCD monitor, and run the
red + white audio cables to it.

I know. That's why I said "to speakers" and not to the speakers. You must
not understand the meaning of the 980%er.:-)
I don't want to get into it here.
