Default Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U "Monitor Output" functionality?

Hello--
I am hoping to use the "Monitor Output" on my LC-45GX6U TV to input to
a VCR (don't ask...suffice to say my wife is a high school
teacher...!). I find very nearly nothing in my Sharp manual about this
Monitor Output, so I don't know if this is a practical approach or not.
It is an "AV" format output, i.e., a single RCA cable for video and
then R&L audio RCA cables.

I'd hoped that this output was switched depending on the "Input"
setting on the TV, e.g. Input 1, 2....5; particularly I'd hoped that it
would switch Input 5's signal (coming from a PC, which has the video
file on it that I want to record onto a VHS tape). But this didn't
seem to work, unfortunately. I'm begining to think that this output is
only related to Input 1 on the TV, which it's "grouped with" on the
back panel of the TV (if so, you'd like to think they'd label the thing
"Monitor Output, Input 1 only" or something...sigh). I don't have a
ready means of adapting my PC's TV card output to the "AV" format so I
could connect its output to the TV's "AV Input 1" input, but I figure
you can probably do that...

Anyhow all that said, does anyone at this forum know anything about
this mysterious "Monitor Output" on this LCD TV? Thanks--

Going in a slightly different direction, a *lot* of video cards these
days support an S-Video output for connection to a TV, or as in your
case, a VCR. If yours doesn't, have you considered replacing the
video card in your PC? Lower end cards (that may be as good or better
than what you have now) can be had very reasonably (sub $50) from
online merchants like www.newegg.com . You simply need to identify
whether you need a PCI-Express (common on most newer PC Motherboards),
an AGP (common on most PC Motherboards more than a few years old), or
PCI (available on all PC Motherboards unless you really, really,
really have a dinosaur).

Good luck,

Dan (Woj...)
