I purchased the LG 32LX1D LCD HDTV (predecessor to this model) in Sept.
2005. It was fine for some time ... then one day it wouldn't power up. I called LG who informed me that since it's outside the warranty they would do nothing. This was 16 months after I purchased it which was 4 months outside the manufacturer's warranty. I took it to an Elite LG service center. The diagnosis: "LCD panel is shorted which in turn loads the power supply causing it to blow out. Both LCD panel and power supply need to be replaced". Total repair cost was $2171.96 which is $186 more than I paid for the set and $1175 more than a brand new one (newer model of same type and size) would cost at current prices. The experience started out well but ended on a sour note. I'm not very happy with this TV. Has anyone else experienced problems with LG LCD flat panels? |

If you purchased the item on a gold or platinum credit card and still have
the receipt or credit card statement, check with the issuing creditor/bank and see if your credit card agreement includes extension of warranties. "upef" wrote in message ... I am going to pursue that avenue. Hopefully I'll get the original purchase price but I have a feeling that I'll get the current market value. Regardless, I think it's been a bad experience owning this TV. I've had to watch the entire NFL playoffs on my old 25" analog TV. No way I purchase another LG product. |

I'd be upset as well. Perhaps you can go check out avsforum.com and see if someone else has had similar experiences and also see if anyone else was able to have LG come through for them. I purchased a 4 year extended warranty for my TV. It's pricey, but it ended up being about $80/yr. Something you might wanna consider for your next purchase. |

If you used a MasterCard you might be covered for an extra year even if
your card isn't gold or platinum. Yes, I am pursuing that. I have submitted a claim but it has not yet
been approved. Thanks for the suggestion. Regardless, this is an LG reliability and customer service problem. There is no way that this a "normal" failure. If it were a $400 power supply or logic board, OK, but this is basically the whole TV set. The LCD panel costs more than the original price of the TV set itself. That in itself really angers me. I called LG customer service and they refused to let me even speak to a manager. This after I was told 2x that a manager would call me back. Which of course never happened. The set was well priced and performed well - but the reliability and value for the money turned out to be about as bad as it gets. I don't care how rare of an occurrence this is. An LG Factory Authorized Elite Service center diagnosed the problem. And that cost me $100.00 in and of itself. Not to mention that I didn't get to watch a third of the NFL season and the playoffs because of it. I spent $1899.00 on a TV set that didn't last more than 16 months. Warranty or no warranty, extended or otherwise that's a very poor customer experience. Just based on my experience, at least 2 people I know are not going to buy LG LCD HDTV sets that they were considering. I have always been shocked that consumers are expected to pay $3000.00
or more for a flat scrren TV that: *** ONLY HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY!!! *** Then they always try to pad their profits by trying to scare you into buying an expensive extended warrenty that has tons of limitations and fine print. I will stick to my Infocus X-1 projector for now until I start to see a 2 or 3 year factory warrenty for flat pannel TVs. That was one of the reasons I bought one. |
