Default Phone jack not near tv

Hi,
This is probably a ridiculous question but I've had a look in the FAQ
and can't find an answer...

We are thinking of getting Sky, with the usual free installation and
dish. I realise that in order to have this, the box needs to be
connected to the phone line (to order Box Office etc - I appreciate
that it's not for "typical" usage though).

However, as is probably the case with many houses, our TV is in the
living room and our soon-to-be reinstated BT phone jack is in the hall.
So if it were to be permanently connected to the phone line, we'd have
to run quite a long extension wire along the hallway, through to the
living room, right round the skirting boards and up to the vicinity of
the TV. Would this need to be done? Will the Sky engineer do this?

Thanks
Rachel.

Most people do it theirself, You could buy an extension kit/secondary socket
to go that bit further and finally use a shop made extension just to go to
the digibox.

As far as I'm aware, Sky does'nt check all the time for normal digiboxes
connected to the phone line, (It's only for the first 12 months anyway) Sky+
they do as it has to be connected permanently.

As long as the installer can get a *Connected to phoneline* on the digibox I
don't think they bother that much.

As a for instance, when I recently moved they would'nt even re-install Sky+
because the engineer from NTL had'nt called to connect up the phoneline (He
was due just an hour later and Sky had come 2 hours too soon to start with!)

I doubt they'd turn the install down for a normal Sky box ,though I could be
wrong and it has happened to people on here possibly?

I got the gift subscription pack for my parents at Xmas. Their phone line
was at the opposite end of the lounge, the engineer took one look and said
he wouldn't bother connecting the box to the phone line, whether this is
standard practice or just a bone idle installer I don't know.
