My local PBS station WGBH has had DT channels 2.1 and 2.2.
Suddenly, within the last couple days there are two more sub channels 2.101(Updat0) and 2.102(Updat1). They have signal strenght but no content. Has anyone seen anything like this? I emailed them but got no reply. -- Rick Evans --------------------------------------------------------------- Lon -71° 04' 35.3" Lat +42° 11' 06.7" |

Hmmm. I live 5 miles west of Needham. I wonder if your issue is
related to my issue. My antenna runs to a splitter and then into my TV and also a DVR. A few days ago, my TV stopped picking up 2.1 and 2.2 (WGBH). I have good signal quality, just no picture or sound. However, my DVR picks up 2.1 and 2.2 just fine. I've been having trouble with my antenna, so I thought that was the cause, but your post has me wondering if our observations are related. |

After my last post, I went to my TV and manually turned to channel 19 (the real channel number for WGBH digital). The TV wheezed and it now shows four sub channels for channel 2: 2.1, 2.2, 2.101, 2.102. Now, 2.1 and 2.2 come in just fine. For 2.101, the TV displays "Updat0" and the screen is blank, like you observed. WGBH already broadcast's six digital channels (if you include 44.x). I hope they don't take some of the bandwidth from 2.2, their HD channel. |

Likely answer to my own question:
Two stations CBS4(WBZ) Boston and WCVB 5.x no longer broadcast on their 4.2 and 5.2 channels. I don't know if this is permanent but WBZ's HDTV page on it's website only talks about it's one digital channel. One interesting funny: In bold letters "CBS4 is now available on Comcast channel 804 in High Definition" But in the next paragraph "None of the Boston digital stations are currently available on cable." -- Rick Evans --------------------------------------------------------------- Lon -71° 04' 35.3" Lat +42° 11' 06.7" "Rick Evans" wrote in message news:[email protected] My local PBS station WGBH has had DT channels 2.1 and 2.2. A station in a major, highly competitive market moving away from sub-channels to concentrate on HD. Who would have thought of such a thing. Matthew -- I'm a contractor. (top-posted for brevity)
New FCC rules that took effect 1-1-07, require that broadcasters "MUST CARRY" minimum 3 hrs of children's programming per week on all channels including each of their digital sub-channels. As well, they must also be able to send EAS alerts on those sub-channels. Because of these new rules many broadcasters in many markets have suddenly eliminated many if not all of their digital sub-channels, at least for the time being. You mean two FEWER digital channels. Wrong. In this thread I meant more. Specifically, WGBH showed two more subchannels. Fewer snowflakes, less snow. If you're gonna be a usenet grammar nazi shouldn't you learn to use usenet first? See the title. My error in the use of *less* was in a different thread. -- Rick Evans --------------------------------------------------------------- Lon -71° 04' 35.3" Lat +42° 11' 06.7" |

That makes sense. One of the local Pax stations just started 24 hour Qubo programming on one of its four sub channels. -- Rick Evans --------------------------------------------------------------- Lon -71° 04' 35.3" Lat +42° 11' 06.7" |
