6+ year old 32XBR400 with no history of problems.
Last 3 days in a row, when turning on the TV after it's been off all night, I get sound, but no picture. Turn off/turn on again, still no picture. Leave set on for 10-15 minutes, half hour, still no picture. THEN turn off/turn on again, picture is back. Picture looks fine once it's on. Any ideas? |

There are several areas that have been known to cause intermittent problems
of this nature in this set. Get it to an experienced Sony servicer who has worked on them. Most others will chase their tails for a while and perhaps never solve the problem. The firm most companies use in this area for their warranty work are a great bunch of dolts . . . I've NEVER had anything come out of their shop that was actually fixed - they usually polish it up a bit and send it on its way. I had close to the same thing. Back in march2003 my 1yo 36xbr450 turn it
on no picture but had sound. Tech came soldered what he said was a "loose connection on socket cn3 on connection yoke" Replaced verticle output ic5004. This worked for about 2 weeks then went again. They took it away, brought it back banged up, scratched in number of places, and a piece broken off front bottom base. It stayed all of 5 minutes I told them its theirs now, they loaded it up took it away. Went to the store (AmericanTV) saw manager had a brand new in box 36xbr800 in two hours. GOOD LUCK. Ray |

Well, this is a fine kettle of fish. I found listings on the Sony
website for the service centers near me. The one I spoke of which I will not use is the only one close enough to make a service call where I am. I'm smack dab between two major cities, with no service centers for miles around. I called Sony's customer service, and the only suggestion they had was for me to call Sears. Sears??!! Are they for real? I told the Sony rep that if I had to chuck this expensive set and buy a new one, I would NOT be buying a Sony, since my warranty would be worthless with no service centers close enough to make a service call, and me without a truck. Oh . . . and the Wega did it again this morning. Still doing it, actually. We left around dinnertime last night, turned the TV off, returned around 10PM, she started just fine. Turned it off when going to bed, this morning it's up to its tricks again. She's still in there, warming up - I'll go try 'er in a little while again. I would suggest that the next time you buy a set, make sure that there is
either local service available that is satisfactory to you or buy something that is easy enough to haul to the nearest servicer. The set will likely need to go to the shop for an efficient repair, so get a few strong backs and heave. Find a servicer that is confident in servicing these sets. Sony is not responsible for where you live. They have one of the best networks of authorized servicers in the business. If you don't like thier local provider, you should not have bought a sony. Overall, we have had very high reliablility from the Sony products we sell.
