wrote in message ups.com... Architectural Digest March 1988 Alfred and Deann Baldwin Home for further details contact: Wylie Overstreet, Architectural Digest This 5 million dollar custom built home features Sony 1020Q projector (thats 15,000 lumen) (your LCD cant even push 1500!) In what universe? I installed several 1020's back in the day (that would be the early 90's), in the museum where I'm the AV manager. It's a sub-500 lumen projector that needs a dark room and a high-gain screen. Meanwhile, we're now commonly using 3000-lumen LCDs in the same sorts or installations; they cost half as much, weigh a tenth as much, require no convergence, and can be used with normal room lighting. Mikey, I think maybe you've been napping for a few years? Now, I won't argue that CRT projectors don't achieve much higher contrast ratios than LCDs, DLPs, etc. It's just that there aren't any available anymore that can compete with the current crop of HT projectors on a bang-for-the-buck basis. And does anyone even make a 1020p CRT projector? RichC RichC |

And listen to someone other than this twit if you want "real" advice. the Stewart brothers are my friends, I have installed AV for 34 years, My installations have appeared in Architectural Digest, and Better Homes and Gardens Magazines, I am currently working on three 5 million dollar + custom homes, This is hardly the resume of a "twit", Just because you love these half assed LCD projectors with pathetic brightness and picture quality does not exclude your ability to learn something from a professional with 500 times your experience. You are jealous of my ability and try to compensate by insulting me. You have an inferiority complex. Three gun projectors rule, and professionals know this well! so cover your windows, sit in the dark, and enjoy your LCD while it still (brief period) works (before it breaks). or before the projector bulb burns out, or before the plastic mirrors start to warp and crack... Later you will learn the lesson but never admit the mistakes. You install $5million home theaters but can't afford better than a free Yahoo internet account? He's posting from a Southern California Comcast account via Google Groups. I'd bet the free Yahoo account is for spam control. The guy blows his own horn quite loudly and has some warped [and incorrect] beliefs about audio/video in general, but judging on his internet connection is rather petty. Especially when you're wrong. |

Now give credit where credit is due. These LCD salesmen can't even DREAM of doing the installations that i do, and can't even DREAM of working in the houses (castles) that I have designed systems for. 1988!!!!! A current Sony projector that will do 10,000 lumens - they don't have a current projector brighter than 10,000 costs about $98K!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I'm just getting into the projector arena.. but by all accounts.. it seems that everyone loves the Mitsubishi HD1000U (street around $900 shipped).. for that price its a bargain, 720p, 1500 lumens (maximum output).. everyone says its plenty bright, even with ambient lighting, which I will have. I've decided to go with the High Contrast Grey Screen variety.. either something like a Dalite ModelB or maybe a draper, should be well within the budget ![]() |

I won't go into his projector choice, but for screens he is correct. Proving the statement that even a blind pig finds an acorn sometimes... The issue for the OP is that he cannot afford a Stewart and must drop down to something that is under $200 |
