Default DAB Radio ?

I was thinking of investing in a DAB radio, but have been told that the
current system is the pits and to wait whilst the new system comes out.
I didn't realise that the powers that be were going to upgrade the system.
Is this true and when?

Yes sounds about right . Crap out of date system desperately in need of
modernisation and renovation.

Mind you digital satellite radio can be excellent from Germany and
France, where engineering is still taken seriously)

I would recommend drawing information from reliable unbiased sources.

OFCOM statement on Radio Licensing Policy for VHF Band III, Sub Band 3

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/cond...3statement.pdf

(paragrah 4.81 onwards)

This should give you confidence that any DAB Digital Radio you buy will
have a long and productive life.

That can be said of any broadcasting system. It may be state of the art
when designed, but rapidly becomes out of date. The public are also happy
to *choose* inferior systems - VHS being perhaps the prime example.

France, where engineering is still taken seriously)

Current DAB works just fine if the data rate is high enough. Of course -
with hindsight - things can be improved.

In my, non technical, opinion DAB is inferior to FM when it comes to sound
quality. Comparing them through the same sound system, aerial and
loudspeakers FM gives a richer, deeper sound. Whether or not many people
would notice the difference is another matter.

Very True... The very best of DAB is excellent, but most is poor - much
worse than FM.

It's the same with DTV...

It's what happens when you let suits play with the toys " Hmm, so I can have
four good channels or 16 crappy ones... think of the advertising
opportunities - I can't see the difference so Joe Public won't"

Don't even get me started on HD ;-)

That's not how I'd describe the difference.
