Default Do I really have to pay Sky £65 for a callout?

Hi all,

I'm after some advise from other users. I've been getting an iffy
signal on my Sky box for probably the past two months. It comes and
goes, but it's definitely not related to weather conditions or other
things like that.

I finally phoned Sky last night, and they want £65 for a call-out to
look at it. I think it's either a dodgy connection into my Sky box,
(although I have tried unplugging, and re-connecting the coax cables),
so if it's not the cable, I think I have a dodgy LNB.

Sky fitted the LNB when I moved into my new house three months ago, but
because I've been a Sky customer for 3 years in total, I'm no longer in
warranty. However, I think it's a bit much for Sky to ask for £65 when
I suspect the LNB has been dodgy since it was first installed at my new
house three months ago.

Do I have a leg to stand on with Sky as I have left it 3 months to
complain. Or what alternatives do I have? (Could I find a local
independent Satellite fixing company??).

Thanks in advance

Scott

Try removing the coax and use a scart.

Hi,

I'm talking about the coax that comes from the Sky Dish, not between the
box and the TV.

Cheers

Scott

Just act exasperated (as you should be) and tell them that it hasnt been fir
for purpose since day 1, and that if they dont do it for free, you just want
to cancel the whole thing.

They've supplied goods not fit for purpose so should replace them under
warranty. A 12mth warranty is pretty much standard on all electrical
equipment.

Could the sale of goods act apply? There may have been no money
changing hands for it but there is a contract attached. If it does
apply then they must repair/replace if its not fit for purpose.

If it is the LNB it's simple & cheap to replace but it could just as
easily be a damaged wire, faulty box or misaligned dish.

Failing that threaten to terminate and they'll probably waive the fee.

Phone them up and tell them you won't pay for a call out and you want to
cancel your sat account. They will send an engineer to you free.

Had a similar problem myself Scott, my digi box started playing up after
about 3 years, losing channels, freezing etc. Deffo wasn't the LNB as I
borrowed the works' box to test my dish, and it was perfect.

Phoned Sky and asked if they could replace it. They said they weren't
responsible for supplying the kit, just the signal. It would cost me £65 to
supply and fit a refurbished box.

I told them ********, just cancel my subs, I don't watch it much
anyway...they then put me through to the "anti-cancel" department, who
agreed to supply the refurbished box for free.

I guess you could phone them up and see what happens....weather they give
you a new box probably depends on what kind of a mood the person on the
other end of the phone is in. Or if you've tried it on before they will be
wary - I expect all call details are logged on Skys system, so they get used
to the people who keep threatening to cancel just so they can blag a few
free months free subs.

Good luck.
