Lines around edge of projector pictu Is this a projector fault?

I have the same model and have not noticed it on my screen at 130 inches.
Can you see it if you take a picture of it or is it more transparent than
that? You could try searching http://www.avsforum.com/ or ask the same
question there and see what answers you get.

Because you have the same projector, I think you might see similar lines on
the edges of DVD pictures if you move the H-Position and V-Position
adjustments throughout their whole range, or if you adjust the overscan
through 0 to 10. I would be interested to know if you can then see these
transparent edge bands on any of your DVDs. (I would be surprised if you
couldn't!)

With one DVD, I could see similar lines on my computer LCD screen when the
DVD was played back through my computer's DVD player, so I think that, with
some DVDs, this might be a fairly common occurrence. I don't think it's a
fault with the projector, in fact I'm impressed that using overscan and the
H and V position adjustments, you can usually eliminate these lines from the
projected picture.

Since writing the above, I have done some experiments in which I altered
the H-Position and the V-Position. These move the projected image
slightly horizontally and vertically.

I also tried adjustments to the over scan function. The manual says
that, if the 4 edges of an image are partly dropped, you can use this
function to adjust and project it properly within a setting range of 0
to +10.

On one DVD, the transparent lines (bands) at the edges of the picture
were minimized when the H-Position was at +3, the V-Position at +9, and
Over Scan at +4.

In some cases, the lines at the edges also varied according to the
aspect ratio that was selected.

So, to answer my own question, I don't think these transparent bands
around the edges are a fault of the projector as they can be minimized
with the above adjustments. But I am very new to all this, so if anyone
can give their experiences on this matter I would be most interested.

Can you change the video type over to 4:3 to full up the 100 inch screen?

Things I've read on widescreen projectors gives the impression that black
bars appear on the sides - which means the little 60 inch widescreen
height remains the same.
If it can be swited over to give a much larger full screen 4:3 image then
that's good news.

You should have a keystone adjustment that you might have to fiddle with,
and setting the bulb to economy low mode should still give good results
while adding more hours to your bulb life.

Thanks Scrooge for your comments. I don't actually have a screen, at the
moment I am projecting on to a white wall, but the results are still very
good. I have found that 4:3 aspect DVDs actually look better to me on a
16:9 setting and I don't really notice any elongation of faces etc. or any
black bars.

I have set the lamp power to Eco-Mode and the brightness of the picture is
not affected much at all, so thanks for this tip. The keystone adjustment
is not really applicable to me as I am projecting on to a flat wall which
is in front of the projector. The keystone adjustment, according to the
manual, is used when the projector is aligned non-perpendicularly to the
screen, or if the projection screen has an angled surface.

In a darker room eco mode can improve the picture by not being too bright
and also be a bit easier on the eyes for any bright scenes. And Pink
Floyd's Pulse concert has plenty of bright flashing lights, it's only worth
watching on a projector like many movies are as well. It usually causes the
fan in the projector to run quite a bit quieter as well.

Keystone is good for ceiling positions where the projector isn't hanging
upside down. My Projector sits on a shelf attached to brackets from the
ceiling. The shelf is just wide enough for different brands of projectors
just in case of a change in the future.

Your flat wall would be fine. Screens aren't worth the price unless you get
it free with the projector. Best thing about a screen is the black border
around it, especially at the sides of the movie.

Loads of dvds have this, its because they are mpeg encoding the black
bar, so the macroblock it is in suffers, the line you see is the edge of
that block, if you look at a scene with lots of motion that will be
where the next block in starts.

Should also add that I saw this the worst when using a player that had
the much touted but useless up conversion feature, setting it to 480i
output reduced it a lot. I suspect that it was sharpening the picture on
up conversion to try to justify the existence of that in the player
