Default Series Link Data as part of Freeview Signal

Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help but I've just bought a Sony RDR-HXD710.
I like it and it seems to do what I wanted, but the one thing it's
missing is the "series link" functionality. ie be able to record all
episodes of a series whether they're repeated in a regular fashion or
not (as is possible on a Sky+ or TiVo box).

My understanding is that the PVR is ready to go with this, but the
meta-data isn't currently broadcast on freeview, as it is on the Sky or
TiVo service.

Does anyone know if and when this might happen?

Thanks,

Tim

As you decided, the EPG broadcast that goes along with the FreeView
channels does not contain series link information. There is no easy way
to deduce series links from the EPG information as it's broadcast at the
moment.

Does anyone know if and when this might happen?

Under test. No standard announced. Don't hold your breath.

Simon.

As I understand it (ahh penny drops on AIUI acronym) the new Freeview
Playback standard includes this feature and it is still expected that this
will be released by Christmas. Personally I have my doubts, but expect it
soon afterwards. BTW the new TitsUp TV box is supposed to be Playback
compliant.

Just got this from one "Tony Brown" at the bbc (in response to a
related query):

"With regards to recording digital terrestrial television programming,
there is a series link function as part of the EPG changes that should
be
implemented before Christmas. However in order to use it, a recorder
will have to have the right software."

Incidentally I emailed as well when I originally
posted. No reply

Guess it's wait and see time.

Cheers for the answers,

Tim

And as good as their word the BBC EPG series data is up and running and
the Sony is using it to good effect! Now if Channel 4 could just do
the same that would be great...

What machine ?

Oops, sorry. Mine's a Sony RDR-HXD860.

Incidentally. Channel 4 replied to an email to say:
"There are no plans at present to include such information"
