I upgraded my aerial to a £45 wideband unit and get digital but still
have some minor ghosting when using analogue TV. Would a £45 Group A aerial be a better choice to reduce ghosting and would a cable upgrade help. I live 25 miles NNW of the Crystal Palace transmitter and analogue signal is best on BBC but slightly less good on ITV and C5. Thanks, Colin |

C5 analogue doesn't come from Crystal Palace, but from Croydon instead, it fits in just at the (revised) top of group A. |

Thanks for the comments/info but still have same question as to which is best type of aerial to reduce ghosting. I wanted Freeview for the range of channels as quality is not up to that of analogue (exception being no ghosting!). Freeview does not have the level of detail analogue has and also shows pixellation/artefacts when fast motion/bright lights are shown (eg. pop concerts) so I want to retain analogue for as long as i can. Thanks |

A log periodic should be more directional, so might allow you to align it to avoid reflections causing ghosting, it will be wideband so have lower gain than a group A yagi, but will have even response across all groups rather then falling off towards group A end of spectrum like a wideband yagi. The more difficult alternative would be stacking multiple group A yagis into a phased array ... |

A log periodic should be more directional, It depends in which direction. In comparison with a yagi, a log has a much wider front lobe, but is much 'cleaner' at the back and sides. So, using a log to reduce ghosting will depend on the direction from which the ghost originates. -- From KT24 - in "Leafy Surrey" Using a RISC OS computer running v5.11 |

Andy Burns wrote: I did say "might", does the OP know how far off-beam the source of the ghosting is? I should have said this earlier. For various reasons (not worth discussing) my aerial has to be in the loft so the source of ghosting could be varied, but unlikely to come from nearby tall buildings or trees since there's only houses. From other website info it seems i'm lucky to get away with just some minor ghosting but a change to a group A aerial might improve the gain so less ghosting and less signal deterioration when it rains (due to the roof getting wet i gather), but then again i might end up with something worse. I shall probably try a £25 grp A from Blake aerials or Antiference for curiosity and feed the kid's TVs with it to replace their dodgy portable aerials and get C5 for them, so i won't lose out even if the signal is no better. Thanks, Colin |
