Default Recording HDTV on DVD? - Sharp Aquos

I have a treasured LC-37G4U and would like to record HD programming on
DVD.

Configuration is:

a. conventional cable connected to antenna A.

b. Ultimate TV (Remember them??) satellite receiver/DVR (non-HD)
connected to Input 1 with composite plus audio.

c. cable company-provided HD receiver/DVR connected to Input 2 with
component cables.

I wish to record HD broadcast or recorded HD programs on DVD. I have
not purchased a DVD recorder yet. Advice is needed here.

I would be satisfied if I could copy HD programs or recorded HD program
to a MEMORY CARD but Sharp is very specific, stating that Component,
HDMI, DVI-I inputs, Card Picture signal cannot be recorded to a MEMORY
CARD.

But what about recording on a DVD recorder? The DVI-I and HDMI ports on
the set are available. Can I connect a DVD recorder to either of these
ports and record a HD broadcast or a program recorded on the HD
Receiver/DVR??

Tia,

Eric

I don't think you'll find a dvd recorder that will record HD, but you
can use a 480i ouput out of the cable box to record HD programs in SD
format to a regular DVD recorder, basically the same way you would off an
antenna or your UTV dvr. This assumes your cable box will output a 480i
signal, and I would think it would, and the recorder has a matching input.

IF you can get the image at 720 or 1080 into a computer it can be
captured. The problem is getting it there at that resolution. When
using the highest resolution through HDMI the receiver and TV talk to
each other so the HD receiver knows it has an HD capable TV set
attached. It's the same as my computer knowing the make, model, and
resolution of the monitor hooked to it.
