Default Sky Broadband MAX Install

On the Router setup pages check that the "Clone Mac Address" is enabled, if
it is try disabling it, if that doesnt do anything change it back to
enabled. Remember to click on Save Settings whenever you make a change to
the router settings.

Regards

Mark

Hi,

My mum has just got sky broadband, received sky netgear hub, had
confirmation that the line has been activited etc.

We went for self install option as i'm normally pretty good with
computers/internet etc. but for some reason the router will not
connect to the internet. Web status page on the netgear just says
connecting.

Also the internet light on the router never comes on, no blinking
amber and definitely no solid green light.

I rang sky but got some girl reading from a script who couldnt help
and escalated the fault to the techies who will respond in 3 days?

I've double checked the cables and filters (which at the moment are
going straight into the master BT socket). Also tried with and
without the telephone plugged in.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Scott.
.

set up the network first
internet last

The network works fine, wired and wireless. I can access the routers
admin page. Its just not connecting to the broadband service. The
green internet light does not come on at all and router just says
connecting...

Have you tried with the router connected to the test socket, behind the
customer socket?

Unscrew the faceplate of the master socket (User Removable Panel) if it
looks like the NTE5 found here
http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/line_jacks.htm

as long as you have entered your user id correctly and your password
within the internet connection setting then it should connect

if not and you are sure you entered it all ok then its down to sky
however as a back up .
check that your av/firewall progs aint blocking it (disable is quickest
test)
once had this prob with tiny firewall :-)

Thanks for the sugestions, will give them a try - Although I havent
entered a username and password anywhere yet. The install cd didnt go far
enough to ask me to enter it - as soon as it found that the internet light
wasnt on, it said go back and check everything which I have.

I also couldnt find anywhere in the routers config to type it in, like
other routers have. I just assumed that theses routers are pre programmed
with either your username or a generic useraname.

Cheers
Scott.

HELLO. DUMB ****. It's a ****ing router. The router
isn't syncing. It's got **** all to do with the PC.

Still as ignorant as ever I see.

It's the old "I don't know the answer so I'll swear at them" routine.
Trolls seem to love it for some reason.

and tutorials on how toget the best out of sky broadband (it's not
affiliated to sky in any way and has helped me massively!!)

The simple fact that you're right doesn't excuse you from the normal
decencies. You might not believe it, but an insult can be far more
powerful without any accompanying profanity. This would be obvious to
you had you read any classic literature.

I've read plenty of classic literature. You get a lot of time to read
in my job. Unlike you it appears I'm confident enough in my
intelligence that I don't feel I have to resort to using long or
obscure words to try and give the appearance of intelligence. What's
the expression again? Oh yeah...baffle with bull****.

Not applicable as...
A) It's not a cable supplied service
B)Sky have locked out most configuration files with their
*******ization of an all encompasing firmware

But he does have a point the OP did say that the sync light is not
coming on & how is a firewall on a PC going to affect that, I wonder
(not)..

Ah yes the site which has a banner proclaiming the pleasures of AOL
wifi broadband on it's first page (problem is that it's £4.99 dearer
and depending on who they're using for a carrier it can be slower).

Yep it's a free site and thus carries advertising to fund the site's
maintanence and development. Proves that the site is definitely not linked
to BSkyB.
