Default channels numbers?

Im trying to set up the channels using the TVGuide and direct cable in using
Cox in OC. Many of the channels are like 24-x instead of the single digit
number is used when the tv tunes. It incredibly awkward and slow using the
TVGuide setup to do this. IF I new the relation between the numbers and the
channel the TV shows, it would be a lot easier.

Is there a list somewhere that relates the 24-x numbers to the numbers shown
when tuning to the channel?
thanks

As for cross-referencing the channel numbers, you may be out of luck. As I
understand it, each local cable provider assigns the channel numbers as it
sees fit. And unless your local office if far different than mine, don't
expect to find anyone who even understands your question. The front office
people are just order-takers, and the technicians are too busy to deal with
customer questions. Add to the equation that you're looking for information
that you will use to cut them out of a box rental fee and . . . Well, you
get the idea.

If your set has an autoscan feature, it will set up the channels for you. It
sure beats doing it by hand. Once the available channels are programmed in,
you can flip channels and make up your own list of channel numbers vs
station. True, there should be a better way. But tedious as it is, this
technique will get the job done.

By the way, channel numbers like "24.12" are read "major channel 24; minor
channel 12". Not that it really matters, but if you do talk to the cable
folks, it might help get the point across.

If you have any luck getting that list from the cable company, let us know.
I'm sure others will be interested.
