Default Freeview stutters

Whether I am watching Freeview on my laptop via a USB card or on a
digital TV I find that despite a perfect picture quality, occasionally
there is a stutter in the signal. The picture freezes for about 2
seconds. It happens about every 15 minutes. This happens on other
people's TVs too, e.g. one at McDonalds. It creates imperfections when
recording and affects one's enjoyment of an otherwise excellent
broadcast. Why do these stutters happen and how can they be prevented?

Just a guess but this may be due to your laptop processor slowing to do
something else.
Is there some other process or schedule task that happens when the stutters
occur?

It is also entirely typical behaviour in marginal reception areas.

I wish people would read the whole message rather than commenting on
the first few words. I said clearly it happens on TVs as well and not
just mine.

I wish people wouldn't be so snotty about an honest offer of help.

I can clearly say that of the dozens of Freeview STBs I have seen in
operation including 3 different ones in my own home, I have NEVER seen one
freeze for a couple of seconds. My Freeview stick on my PC does though, and
I'm sure that Roger is correct about the cause.

I echo that. I've a Sony Bravia set with digital tuner, and get faultless
reception via a rooftop digital ariel, even though we're 35 miles north of
the Crystal Palace transmitter. Never a stutter - except on Chanel 5 which
I believe is due to the extra compression on some ITV channels.

You might investigate ways to improve the signal strength?

My Setpal DTT and my Strong DSAT receivers both do fairly regularly,
despite being fed with excellent signals. I think they just get fed

up
with churning out complete rubbish hour after hour.

Curiously I have a Pace DT210F that does on ITV3 but seeming not on
others, and a Humax MG-TU1 that only does it when there is
interference in the immediate area (the vac in the same room is a good
example) or a taxi uses its radio outside - and this despite being fed
with CT100 from a screened Televes distrubution amp in the loft!
