Default Comcast: Combine dual cable system into 1 for HDTV??

Hi,
Comcast in my area has a dual cable system wiring. In each room,
there's 1 outlet w/ 2 connector. IF I'm using a HD DVR, it doesn't
matter which connector I connect to. If I am using a regular TV, it
doesn't matter either.

My problem is I just purchased a new HDTV w/ builtin ATSC and QAM
tuner. If I connect from the upper connector to the TV, I get all the
cable channels I subscribe to (analog). If I connect from the bottom
connector to the TV, I get NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW HD channels. But I
cannot get both of them together. I use a regular splitter and try to
combine them (reversing it from 2 connector to 1) but my HD channels
disappears and the cable signal degrades till it is not even watchable.

I've read a diplexer is suppose to be able to combine some signals
together but in this case, will it work for this dual cable system
Comcast deployed in my area??

Any other way I can fix this? Right now, if I unplug one of the
connector from the wall, then I can watch either cable or HD channels
(depending on which I unplug) but not together.

Thanks.

A simple switch box would work. Not elegant, but effective.:-)
Manual models from under $5.

It'll work, but I rather pay $5 to get the HD box then to get up from
bed each time I channel surf bet. HD and SD.

No way to combine the 2 signals into 1 and feed into the TV?

What about using a splitter/combiner in reverse just as you would for two
outdoor antenna to a single down cable. I'm not sure if the common Radio
Shack variety will work but the units the satellite companies use to combine
aerials might work.

You can also get autosensing or remote controled ones.

If there was, I don't think you'd have two cables to begin with.:-)
But, I could be wrong. I've never had cable or sat in 50+ years of
watching TV.
