Will this include services at Kirk O' Shotts?

As you know DTT services aren't broadcast from Kirk O'Shotts.

Does anyone have any details of the proposed replacement of this
transmitter? According to http://tx.mb21.co.uk/dso/facts.asp this
transmitter is to be replaced.

Will it be taller? Will this increase the coverage area? Will the
new transmitter be at the same location? Will the new transmitter
include FM and DAB radio?

The existing masts at Black Hill and Caldbeck are being replaced.

They won't be significantly taller, but they will be stronger. The new
high power DTT aerials and the associated gubbins will require this
AIUI. All services will be transferred to the new masts, and the old
ones demolished.

I apologise for drifting off topic. I will post to the appropriate

One on each side of the M8. Kirk O'Shotts was the original BBC
transmitter and Blackhill (also Black Hill) was built for independent
televison a few years later.

However, I understood that after that there was legislation to compel
broadcasters to share sites so I wondered whether the building of a
new site would create an opportunity to transfer all the services to
the tallest transmitter tower.

According to the Arqiva site, the Caldbeck mast (which I believe is
identical in height to the Black Hill mast) which is 1006ft high will be
replaced by one 1112ft high making it the UK's third tallest structure
(behind the Belmont and Skelton masts).

I can't find any info about the new Black Hill mast (still a few years
from being built) but I'm guessing it might also be similar in height to
the new Caldbeck mast if they are the same now. (But I could be wrong!)

I don't think there was any legislation, but there was an agreement that
for uhf tv the sites would be shared. When the time came to add a VP
component to the VHF radio transmissions, the mast at KoS wasn't strong
enough to carry the extra weight of the new aerials but BKH had the
capacity. The BBC then leased the KoS mast to a mobile phone operator and
even moved their maintenance team base to BKH. DAB aerials wouldn't fit on
the BKH mast and were put on KoS.

I cast see the need to co-site DAB and DTT. At least with two masts there's
a slight safety factor.

Talking of Peterborough, have they actually built the final permanent
mast yet? I know they started with a bodged one, then built a semi
permanent one but I thought there would be a final permanent one.

Yep, the new permanent mast has been in place for about a year now I think.
