I have an old Panasonic DVD player that is 480i and it does have component
output. If I hook this up to an EDTV will the TV upconvert the 480i to 480p? If I hook the player up to a plasma HDTV what will the TV upconvert the 480i to? ( the plasma set is 1024x768). Many times the remotes for the TV give a list of vendor codes for DVD players, etc. that might include several different numbers. Does that mean that any of the codes will work for the particular player, or do I just go through the vendor code list until I find one that works with my player? TIA, Wayne |

However, if you have a progressive scan DVD player, you have to set it to "progressive" in order to output a 480P signal through the component jacks to have a better picture. If it's not a progressive player, then the TV will do the upconversion Many times the remotes for the TV give a list of vendor codes for DVD players, etc. that might include several different numbers. Usually they give a list of code numbers for Panasonic. Try each one until it works. You might be lucky and have just one number to try. TIA, Wayne |

I was afraid the codes were going to be trail and error. Two of the plasma sets at the top of our list are Panasonics; so maybe they have all the Panasonic codes already programmed into the TV remote. Wayne |
