Default "Freeview" channels

Hi All
I have an ex-Sky box/dish, but do not receive all "freeview" channels.
A couple of years ago, when BBC were going digital, it was possible to
purchase a viewing card to extend choice, at a one time only charge.
Is this card still available and where would you buy?
Would it be worthwhile?
Would I receive progs like "At the Races" and "4 More"?
David.

BBC / ITV channels changed to FTA from FTV July 2003 and Nov 2005
respectively so no card needed for them

yes, from Sky 20 quid
http://www.freesatfromsky.com/ in their FAQ

"I already have digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital
satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20."

Would it be worthwhile?

Up to you as the card gives only 5 more channels than the clear ones you
get when you pull the card out

ch4, five, five us, five life, sky three

and you might already get ch 4 and five via analogue

Would I receive progs like "At the Races" and "4 More"?

No both are subscription channels (note E4 / More 4 are not free on
Satellite)

Sky will now sell you a card for GBP20 see sig.
It will give you both FTA and FTV channels as shown on
http://www.wickonline.com/fta.htm

Dave Fawthrop dave hyphenologist co uk Sat Ch4, Ch5, only GBP20
http://www.freesatfromsky.com - "what is freesat?" - "view T&C" -
What will I receive "?20 ... one Viewing Card". You will also need
$ky box and dish. List of Channels at http://www.wickonline.com/fta.htm
All BBC & ITV Channels are now FTA and do not need this card,
alternatively hey are receivable with a generic dish and STB.

Not much point with cheap card.
Will have to consider Sky again, but no package really suits me and I
grudge paying for "wall-to-wall" football.
Thanks to All,
David.

Freeview is DVB-Terrestial. Channel line-up for DVB-Satellite is different.

The sky FAQ link from
http://mjr.towers.org.uk/blog/2006/astefaq
says 'At the time of writing no one is now issuing these cards'

Would it be worthwhile?

No.

Would I receive progs like "At the Races" and "4 More"?

No. The cards only give 4 and five now, as I understand it.

Complain to http://www.culture.gov.uk/
that supposedly 'public service' broadcasters are Sky-only.
