PC World, surely? Their adverts ALWAYS make them sound like the staff know
what they're talking about and that they have the best bargains around!

My nearest PC World has a Maplins on the same retail park about 50
yards away, so if I'm looking for something they both sell, such as
cables, it's easy to make a comparison. For some reason I don't recall
ever buying a cable from PC World.

Since Maplin became a toys-for-boys store their pricing isn't
particularly good.

Marks & Spencer are currently selling HDMI cables for £25.

Lidl are selling them for £4.99

Is this a record?

I needed some USB extensions.

PC World sell them for 18.99

Dabs sell them for 2.29.

Guess where I bought them

I purchased mine in Poundland, guess how much less than Dabs they
were?

Yeah, I noticed quite a few in poundland, I'm sure they were a pound!
:-)

Though sometimes they do sell items off for 50p.

Why would I want something which is off?

Do you mean the adverts where the customer knows more about the product
than the staff? The only bargains are those two items that are
advertised - 99.999% of the of the stock is over-priced by at least 30%.

Their complete systems are now competitively priced.

When I costed up what I wanted, I couldn't get a better deal
from a mail order house, and that was before I costed in
the inconvenience of waiting in for delivery.

Because you don't want to run the battery down until you get it home.

Of course.

If thats at Poole I suggest that you have a look at DJ Electronics -
Ensbury Park Road Winton (small shop but very good prices for cables
ans low priced PC accessories).

OK, I've learnt my lesson. I'll never say "Is this a record?" again.

You are about the 5th person who couldn't resist

Some of those are just the same complete system deals that appear at Aldi and
Lidl, and I'd rather buy from the latter shops.

When I took a PC back to Aldi which had problems, without complaint the
manager whisked it away and sorted me out a full refund - since they haven't
got the time/knowhow to deal with such problems in order to remain cheap,
whereas a shop like PC World would start asking "Have you tried...?" which I
could do without when I just want to get shut of something.

I think I can do better - I (rather, my mother) needed a crossover
cable, which PC World wanted to charge me £10 for but I found online
for under a pound...

Aldi used to do them for £40, but you did get a free upscaling HDMI DVD
player thrown in.
