1. Do I need a big screen TV in order to truly appreciate HDTV? I live
in a tiny house and can not put larger than a 20" TV on my desk. 2. I need an HDTV and a PC monitor in the same unit. 19 - 20", 4:3 aspect ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution. Is there such a thing? 3. If the source of the signal is analog such as analog broadcast, laserdisc or standard definition DVD, will I see improvement? I heard that analog source actually looks worse with HDTV. Is that true? 4. What is analog HDTV? Will an analog HDTV solve the problem in question #3? Hendra |

1. Do I need a big screen TV in order to truly appreciate HDTV?
It's somewhat subjective. You will definitely lose some of the benefit of HD on a small screen. 2. I need an HDTV and a PC monitor in the same unit. 19 - 20", 4:3 aspect ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution. Is there such a thing? Technically HDTV is 16x9 but you should be able to display OTA HDTV on your 4:3 monitor. 3. If the source of the signal is analog such as analog broadcast, laserdisc or standard definition DVD, will I see improvement? I heard that analog source actually looks worse with HDTV. Is that true? Analong looks worse, DVDs look better IMO, but some people complain that they can see defects. I'm not so picky. 4. What is analog HDTV? Will an analog HDTV solve the problem in question #3? No. -- Mac Cool |

No, you sure don't, but you could mount larger one one the wall. 2. I need an HDTV and a PC monitor in the same unit. 19 - 20", 4:3 aspect ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution. Is there such a thing? Any 19-20" PC monitor is capable of 1280x1024. Some are cpapble of 1600x1200 or even higher. I use two 19" PC monitors for HDTV's myself. Not bad for $30 each.:-) Actually, much better than a $200 LCD. 3. If the source of the signal is analog such as analog broadcast, laserdisc or standard definition DVD, will I see improvement? Compared to what? I heard that analog source actually looks worse with HDTV. Is that true? Not on a crt. 4. What is analog HDTV? Will an analog HDTV solve the problem in question #3? Not sure what you mean here. HDTV is not broadcast in analog in the US. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |

I heard that analog source actually looks worse with HDTV. Is that true? Not on a crt. Hmm, so I need to buy a CRT if I want to maintain the same image quality for analog sources. But I don't want to buy bulky CRT due to space constraint. Looks like I will have to stick with analog TV in the mean time. 4. What is analog HDTV? Will an analog HDTV solve the problem in question #3? Not sure what you mean here. HDTV is not broadcast in analog in the US. Sorry for being vague. I guess my question is: is there such a thing as analog HDTV? What is the different between that and digital HDTV? Sorry if it sounds dumb but I know absolutely nothing about HDTV so I am not familiar with the terminology. Hendra |

They are regular PC monitors. This one is a Hitachi SuperScan Elite 751, and the other is a Dell. They don't have tuners in them. They are connected to PC's. It's a MythTV network with 5 HDTV tuners. 3. If the source of the signal is analog such as analog broadcast, laserdisc or standard definition DVD, will I see improvement? Compared to what? Compare to regular TV. They look better than a regular TV in all instances. Not sure what you mean here. HDTV is not broadcast in analog in the US. Sorry for being vague.
