I just discovered that there is more than one way of
transmitting DAB radio depending on what country you are in. Does that mean that a DAB radio bought in this country will not work in other countries? (I know you can't receive programmes broadcast OUTSIDE of the country you are in, but I mean can you not pick up local stations either?) Sorry if this is an "old chestnut" and there is an obvious answer somewhere on the web! |

Sorry if this is an "old chestnut" and there is an obvious answer somewhere on the web! My DAB radio picks up European stuff in a lift. Bill PS I don't mean that I use it in an elevator, I mean when there are abnormal weather conditions causing enhanced propagation. PPS It's a mains radio so I couldn't use it in a lift anyway. PPPS And lifts are made of metal so the signal wouldn't get in. PPPPS And there wouldn't really be time to hear anything worthwhile. I mean, the plays on Radio 4 last an hour. Who'd want to go up and down in a lift for an hour just to listen to a play? This is a silly idea. I don't know why you ask such damn fool questions. |

Ronny wrote: Does that mean that a DAB radio bought in this country will not work in other countries? Very likely not. The answer you want is probably here, somewhere. http://www.wohnort.demon.co.uk/DAB/ 1) UK sets don't usually have L-band. 2) Also they often don't scan the whole of Band III, but only the current UK channels. 3) Most countries don't have DAB at all. |

A DAB radio from the UK will work in any other country that uses VHF Band III for their DAB services. However some UK DAB receivers do not support L-Band (1.4 GHz) and some countries, (France for example) have their DAB services in this band rather than Band III. See:- http://www.wohnort.demon.co.uk/DAB/ -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

You'd be a piece of performance art then Bill, probably worth an award! |

Sorry if this is an "old chestnut" and there is an obvious answer somewhere on the web! What makes you think you can't get foreign transmissions on a DAB set under the right conditions? Or a VHF/FM set or a UHF TV or a VHF TV (especially a VHF TV!) That aside, there is a chap called Steve who will be along in a moment who will give you some bad news about the ability of your new DAB receiver to receive anything at all in *this country* in a few years time. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

I've got two, one does, the other doesn't. |
