Default HELP: Just bought a Hitachi with built in HD tuner but noit getting over the air....

I currently have an HD antenna and it works great on my old TV.
However, I just bought a new Hitachi that doesn't need a box and I
hooked up my "over the air" HD antenna to it but the HD signal is not
working? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

DJ

Is your tuner set to "Air", "Broadcast", "OTA" or something like that, or is
it set to "HRC", "Cable", etc? I believe that my TV can only receive
digital broadcasts that were automatically loaded via scanning.

And did you go through the set-up procedure in the owners manual before you
posted?
And is the tuner set for AIR reception, not cable?

is your antenna VHF-UHF combo?
my understanding is that the HDTV digital
broadcasts are in the UHF band

if you were using VHF channels in the past,
that would be another explaination.

Depends on where he is. Most digital broadcast stations are currently
in UHF, but by no means all. Of course, many of the upper VHF (7 to 13)
analog stations will switch their digital broadcast back to the current
analog channel once the analog shutdown occurs, currently scheduled for
Feb. 17, 2009.

The original poster should go to antennaweb.org, enter his zip code
and under options, enter a height of 100 or 200 feet (makes up for the
over conservative settings for digital reception at antennaweb), and
select digital stations only. Look at the last number on each row which
is the actual broadcast channel to see which are UHF and which are VHF.

My suspicion is that he has not hooked it up correctly and done a full
scan for this locals and that he does not have the right or a good
antenna for OTA reception. Best Buy and Circuit City push a lot of lousy
indoor antennas with poor built-in amplifiers that are not needed.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't go through setup yet because I am
not ready to move over the old TV, but I will tonight.
