Freesat without Digibox

Hi All,

I've looked in the FAQ, which implies that you can only use Freesat
cards with SKY digiboxes. Is this strictly true? I have an existing
system, which already receives the FTA channels such as BBC, BBC4 etc,
I would like to be able to receive the rest of the FTV channels such as
Filmfour.

My current receiver (a Technomate 5500 CI) has two CAM slots in the
front, is it possible to get a CAM that will work with the freesat card
(and if so, which one?). Alternatively, there are various Digibox's for
sale on eBay at present, would one of these (with the card) be a
solution?

Strictly? No. In practice? Yes.
A "hobbyist" could put together a DIY system with a special and
rather expensive unofficial CAM that can be made to decode the FTV
channels with a suitable FTV card, but you will still need to put the
card into a proper Sky box from time to time. Also there is no
guarantee that it would work next week or even tomorrow.

Simpler just to get a Sky box and use that. It does the job of
receiving UK channels very well.
