Default Sony STB buggered after update.

Since the last firmware upgrade I have had to reset my Sony STB twice in the
past week in order to get the EPG and Now Next to display event information
from Sandy Heath. Before the update I never had this problem.

It may not be the update. There have been reports on Digital Spy from people
who missed the latest update but are still having EPG problems with their
VTX-D800U. Sony are looking into this problem.

I believe that it is a resource issue with the box. It has appears to have
two problems. It does not have enough memory to store all the events that it
is receiving and when it finds itself in this state it decides to throw away
all of the EPG events. While there a lot of people are blaming this on the
recent update I think it is more related to the continuous expansion of the
number of services on the platform.

As a work around you need to free up some EPG space by getting the box
ignore any services that you don't watch. Do this by adding them to the skip
list. Make sure that you have skipped all the TUTV services and if you are a
boundary between regions any duplicated services. If you are not seeing any
duplicated services then the indication is that you need to skip at least 3
scheduled services but this will only work while no new services are added
to the platform so skipping a few more is advised. Also remember that number
of events on services vary day-to-day and if your box is just on the limit
this could push it over.

Once the box has got into the state where it is not showing any events in
the EPG you need to reset it with a power cycle or by holding in the FP
bottom for around 10 seconds but sort out the skip list first.

We have all the TUTV services, most of the shopping channels, the quiz
channels and all the stand-alone text services skipped and both of our boxes
are working fine.

Hope this helps,

Glyn

Happened to me to with my Sony STB, most people cure the problem by
unplugging the STB from the mains, leaving for 10 minuutes and power up
again.

It cured mine and has worked fine ever since.

Good grief, you'd think Sony would have learned by now. And the old
OnDigital boxes still work fine. Maybe one day Sony will catch up with
the 1998 standard.

Reminds me of the huge hole which appeared in the middle of the road.
The police are looking into it.

That case where their toilet was stolen seems to have hit a dead end though.
