Real newbie here and we need a new TV.
And I know nothing about LCD's or plasmas and I'm not even sure what questions to ask about either. Any big drawbacks to either the plasma or lcd ? Any brands to stay away from ? We're thinking about a 37-42 inch model. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Randy |

Start with latest issue and work your way backwards. Should answer all your questions. You can also try: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/e..._hdtv_ov_1.htm But you'll need to buy an online subscription ($4.month?) to see everything at the above web site. I think there is a section on this topic in Panasonic TVs page (check out their Viera section, and click on the link to see the comparison). I think the *more or less* general consensus is that for small TV sets, or for well lit rooms, LCD has the advantage, but for large screens, provided that the viewing conditions are not adverse (i.e., not too much light), plasma seems to be the winner. Unfortunately for you, the threshold that distinguishes "small" from "large" is precisely around 37-42 ... Although maybe 37 is already closer to the "large" than to the "small" category; 42 is definitely large; 32 is definitely small. Carlos -- PS: Thankfully, SED is coming, so the war will be over, without the slightest room for discussion, under any conceivable point of view :-) |
