I know you are all familiar with my own aerial install on the side of
my flat using a loft lance & No More Nails? Anyway, I'm thinking of nipping up into the loft soon to see why the communal aerial system don't work. When the tely is connected to the coax socket on the wall, the coax cable acts as the aerial. So either there is no aerial at the end of the cable or the distribution amp has packed up. There are four flats in my block, but no one else uses the communal aerial. Need to get hold of a step ladder first. It's odd, coz this is a very strong signal area where indoor loop aerials work fine. Even stick your finger in the aerial socket on the telly brings in perfect reception, yet the dodgy communal system is terrible reception. Marky P. |

As someone who would be itching to do the same, just be careful not to, to example, trip and put your foot through the ceiling. You don't have permission to be up there and your tenancy agreement/leasehold agreement could potentially be invalidated if your landlords/freeholders take a dislike to you. I'm sure others will say the same but it's far better to have a gentle word with the landlord/freeholder and get someone else to look at it, with their permission. Paul DS |

Paul DS I'll just pop my head up there first to survey the situation. If it looks a bit too dodgy, I won't bother. Also, I'll wait 'till everyone's out. I did inform the housing association about it about 6 months ago, but nothing happened. They said it's not a priority but maybe someone will have a look at it when there in the area. No one has ever been in the area since I moved in 15 months ago! Marky P. |

The loft above the communal stairs (if there is one) is the place to look. Bill |

If the system doesn't work at all they have to make it work, or agree that everyone has an aerial. Ask to see the document used to calculate the rent. For council and housing assn housing you have a right to see it. There might be a rent element for the communal TV system. In which case you've got 'em. Bill |
